I would say the majority of surfers have a bias toward their short-term memory. It seems like every other wave is the best ride of the day, or a session with a couple of great sets is “the best day of surf for the year”.

But nobody likes surfing with someone who has a long-term memory. Those guys remind you how it was better three weeks ago or how the guy before you had a better ride. They hang onto those experiences, which inhibit them from enjoying the NOW to its fullest.

Try to love whatever you’re doing today as if it is the best it has ever happened. Just try.

burger wednesday

There is a tradition, and a community, that is growing in westside Costa Mesa, CA. My good friends at Generic Youth open up their doors every hump day in order to host BURGER WEDNESDAY!

The crowd that assembles on this substantially slanted parking lot every week is an eclectic mix of people. However, the binding characteristics that you find amongst everyone are a love for burgers and conversation. And let me tell you… grill master Scott Andrews makes the best burger in Orange County.

Flynn Novak has been trying this for nearly a decade. Stoked for the guy. He actually landed a backflip on a surfboard, and it actually looks pretty clean. You don’t have to be a surfer to appreciate this video, but if you do surf, you appreciate it all the more.

Guerilla Gardening is an artform that has been gaining quite a bit of attention as of late. I LOVE the concept… Let’s take misused and neglected land and transform it into something that’s fun and/or inspiring to look at.

An LA-based design firm has taken this concept to the next level and helps involve those of us that don’t have quite as green of thumbs. Common Studios has launched a project they are calling Green Aid. By repurposing vintage vending machines and selling pre-made seed bombs they are expanding the guerilla gardening movement to the masses. You can simply purchase a seed bomb, toss it into a vacant lot, and let mother nature get to work.
