Vampire Weekend has made quite the splash since the release of the self-titled debut album in 2008. You can find them represented at the majority of music festivals this year and they continue to chalk up awards and acclaim for their fresh sound. Much of their uniqueness is found in front man Ezra Koenig and his amazing voice. “The Kids Don’t Stand a Chance” is a perfect showcase of this simple truth in this mellow ballad from their debut album.
One of my favorite characteristics of a great song is it’s sing-along-ability. Every Sunday I will post a new song that I feel epitomizes this quality and encourage you to join with me in singing aloud and celebrating music.
I first came to know about (and love) Delta Spirit when I saw their “Take Away Show” on the La Blogotheque website. Here they took over a trolley car and filled it with their loud instruments and screaming at the top of their lungs. Their raw sound and melodic tunes will leave you voice-less as you try to imitate lead-singer Matt Vasquez’ passion. (I don’t think it’s possible, by the way).
Enjoy the awesome live version (via La Blogotheque), and the single from their album Ode to Sunshine, of “People Turn Around”.
